Tell Me Everything…

Can you believe I have been blogging for about 2 years now? Unreal.

Anyway, since I have been at this for a while, I want to know what you think. I want to know what you like and what you dislike about my blog. Be honest, I can take it.

I also want to know what your favorite project is that I’ve posted. Please vote via the poll or comment section.

If you had a favorite post that wasn’t a craft, but an artist’s work, I would like to hear about that too! Please let a comment for that.

Thanks to all of my followers for helping me to survive my first two years!

Blogging Ideas…

Surprisingly, I haven’t found any problems coming up with new content to write about on Make Something Mondays. There are always new artists to discover and new craft projects to try. But I’ve found that writing on other topics is not so simple.

So I want to know what you do when you are staring at a blank document, and think that you have nothing to say. You want to write, but what is there to write about? How do you come up with topics? Do you read other blogs and the comments? Do you use hashtags on social networks? Are you inspired by something that happens in your day?

Are the comments your readers leave mostly positive? Or are they the product of your rudely reactive writing?

What really gets your readers going?

One Year of Blogging

wordpressGuess what?!

Today is the one year anniversary of the day I started Make Something Mondays! YAY!  Thank you, to my followers, for making my first year of blogging a great one!

What I’ve learned:

  • I am more crafty than I was a year ago– Seriously, I was WAAAAAAY more artsy than crafty. Now I can add another skill to my list.
  • You truly have to love what you choose to blog about– I could talk about art for hours, maybe even days, without running out of steam. People become interested in what you are talking about if you are passionate.
  • You are who you hang with– For those of you who blog, you know that you need to attract the right people and those people can really teach you something.
  • “Patience is a virtue”– My parents told me this my whole life, literally. They probably told me this before I could even talk. Success doesn’t happen over night and sometimes it is good that it takes a while. If you were that good then, you would have nothing to work toward.
  • It is a give and take relationship– If you give them something good then they give you a response.
  • Take an interest in your followers– I’m serious! There are a ton of interesting people out there and I’ve found many of them through blogging. I’ve formed some great relationships with my followers. You are all wonderful!

Boyfriends Aren’t Always Right…

but who ever said they were? I’m just kidding. My boyfriend is pretty wonderful but he seems to think I spend too much time on my computer and my phone updating my blog, checking email, on social networks, etc. I disagree and think that if I spend too much time on my devices then he spends too much time with his X-box. So, we’ve made an agreement. Starting tonight, he is packing away his Xbox until Saturday morning and I will be avoiding all social networks, games and yes, my blog.  However, I am not okay with giving up my blog for a week so we decided that I could prepare 5 blog posts in advance for each day of the week and post them from my phone each day. Meaning, I will be posting but I am not allowed to comment. He doesn’t think I’ll make it but I am going to prove him wrong.  So, wish me luck and don’t desert me! I will answer comments at the end of the week or this weekend, promise.

Thanks for your support!

Freshly Pressed??? THANK YOU!

When I logged into my blog yesterday I had noticed that my views went through the roof and I had about 100 comments that needed tended to. What is going on? I was FRESHLY PRESSED! Great, but what exactly does that mean? I had seen the freshly pressed page and had looked at the posts before but I thought they were all chosen at random. I decided to do some research on it because I kept seeing “Congrats on being freshly pressed” in my comments section. It has to be more than random then.

With the help of WordPress and google I stumbled upon (not literally, I did not use StumbleUpon.com) Mahfooz’s Expositions‘ blog. This post that I found gave me some insight.

“Every aspiring blogger dreams of being ‘freshly pressed’. Freshly Pressed, for those unfamiliar faces, is a section where WordPress admins select and publish blogs that are entertaining, enlightening or inspiring. Not only does it increase the traffic to your blog by thousands, but also that the mass public will actually read and enjoy your blog. It’s much like getting a ‘certified’ stamp over your work. Being freshly pressed means you have reached the standard of being a semi-pro or professional blogger. But to be selected out of over half a million blogs is an accomplishment that many people, including myself, have yet to achieve.”

When I first started my blog in Nov 2011 I was pretty apprehensive about it. I am not much of a writer and I didn’t know much about blogging. I had never read more than 30 blogs in my life (intentionally) much less follow one. Ohh well, I thought, I’ll give it a shot… And here I am 4 months later. I can’t thank my viewers and followers enough for giving me confidence through your likes and comments. I greatly appreciate each and every one of them and I hope that you continue to enjoy my own work as well as other artists’ work that I post.

WordPress admins: THANKS A TON! 🙂
