DIY Stenciled Casserole Dish

DIY stenciled casserole dish

The DIY Customized Casserole Dish was such a fun project! It’s cheap and quick, which is great, but you have to pay close attention to what you’re doing. Getting the stencils to sit in a straight line and paying attention to how well the stencil is adhered to the glass is going to make a big difference in whether or not you’re redoing the project.

The good news is that, if you mess up, you can wash it off (if you do it quickly) and start over.

The most important part is the paint you choose. I highly recommend Martha Stewert’s Satin paint. It’s a multi-surface paint so you can use it for a variety of projects. I’ve used it on glass before, and it works very well.

Casserole dish
Adhesive letter stencils

Step 1

Position your stencils in the middle of the glass in a straight line.

Tip: Put the middle letter on first and work your way to the beginning and end of the name. This helps to center the name.

Step 2

Brush on a light layer of paint.

Peel the stencil off slowly and cautiously while the paint is still wet. Let the paint dry.

I recommend cleaning the stencils immediately after you remove them from the casserole dish. It makes cleaning much easier. Make sure to rinse off the back as well.

Make sure you read the label on you Satin paint. Different brands have different requirements. Some require that you bake the dish to cure the paint and some don’t.

Either way, when you’re finished, your glass will be dishwasher safe. Wonderful, right?

When you’re finished, you’ll have a beautiful, customized casserole dish that you can take to family reunions to distinguish your dish from everyone else’s or give it as a gift along with some tea towels or a casserole dish carrier.

I’d love to hear what you think. Leave any feedback in the comments!
