3 Artsy Drinks to Make For Your New Years Party

I was thinking recently about how we host New Years parties. We invite people over, have festive appetizers, decorate with glitter and stars, and of course we break out the beer. Beer? On New Years? Let’s get a little bit more fancy, shall we? We are ringing in the new year! Since you know that I am not all that festive, I decided to avoid the holiday drink post that you are all going to read and share 3 drinks that I know (ok I don’t know, I assume) you’ve never had that, if you wanted to, you could test out for the party you might be attending. If you don’t like it, someone will. But I think you are going to like these.

Pour peach schnapps into the shot glass, add the Bailey’s (slowly), and top with the grenadine. It actually tastes good… if you can get past the curdling part. Some people just like to look at it.

*This can be made as a cocktail or a shot.

Rainbow Drink

Add different juice drinks into an ice tray and drop the juice cubes into a glass of sprite mixed with a shot or two of vodka. It tastes so good when it melts. If the Sprite is too sweet you could substitute club soda.

Mix .5oz Midori melon liquor with .5oz Baileys, add a splash of grenadine. Don’t mix it, just take the shot. Ring in the New Year with some flare.

DIY Glitter Candle Holders

DIY glitter jar with candle

I love candles! If you have followed me for a while, I’m sure you are well aware of that. So,  wanted to make some cute New Years themed candle holders. Since the January 1st is coming up quickly, I thought I would share this one with you. It is super easy to make and, if you’re up for spending some time with your (little) kids, they will enjoy this one too!

coat the jar with Mod PodgeThings You Will Need:
Jars
Brush
Glitter
Paper towels
Mod Podge (gloss finish)
Tealights/flameless candles

*If you don’t put paper towels down before your start, you are going to hate yourself. The glitter goes everywhere!

coat the jar with Mod PodgeStep 1:
Using your brush (or sponge), coat the inside of the jar with a thin layer of Mod Podge.

Step 2:
Before the glue dries, drop some glitter in the bottom of the jar. Put a lid on the jar and shake it up. You can always add more glitter if you want to.

Pour the remaining glitter out of the jar. (This is where the napkin comes in handy.)

Let the glue dry.

Step 3:
Drop your (lit) candle down into the jar.

Beautiful! It makes a great craft to do with your kids and might even make a cute New Years centerpiece! Go ahead and experiment with colored glitter (you already know what silver looks like), and even the thickness of the glue. Since it has a gloss finish it will always dry clear. So, the more glitter you can get to stick, the better it will look.

Fun Family Recreates Movie Scenes With Extra Boxes

Someday this baby will look back at his childhood and realize that he didn’t have a normal life. This family, Lilly, Leon and baby Orson found a new way to have fun by recreating movie scenes out of their best “domestic junk”. This became known as the Cardboard Box Office. This all began when the family made the move from New Zealand to Australia and had a bunch of boxes left over.

How inventive is that? I would love to see what the baby grows into. Another Walt Disney? Or maybe even a Tim Burton?

DIY Wire Wrap Christmas Tree Earrings

DIY Christmas Tree EarringsIt doesn’t look like it, but these Christmas tree earrings were actually very easy to make. They would make a nice last-minute gift idea for some of the ladies of your list that you have yet to buy for. Granted, it is a seasonal idea, but you could turn them into ornaments as well, if you made them larger. These are probably about 2 inches tall.

Things You Will Need:
Beads
Pliers
Thick wire
Earring hooks
Thing-a-ma-JIG

I know, what the heck is a Thing-a-ma-JIG, right? It is that little peg board you see in the background. it comes with a bunch of pegs in a variety of sizes. You can get it at Michael’s for $20. It is wonderful.

earrings set upStep 1:
Set up your peg board so that it resembles a tree (like in the image above).

Wrap your wire around the first peg, at the top. You can use pliers for this or use your fingers.

Christmas treeStep 3:
Continue to wrap the wire downward until you have something that looks like this.

*I took some of the pegs out so you are able to see the wire better. Leave the pegs in there while you are wrapping.

When you are finished wrapping the wire, you should have something like the above photos. I played around with some different ideas to end the tree with. You can do whatever you want, but I prefer the one with the beads.

Go ahead and attach your earring hooks.

Monogrammed Gifts That You Will Actually Use

Monograms have really made a comeback in the last year or so. Everyone thinks that, just because that can put some lettered vinyl on almost anything, they should. So many people end up with Christmas or birthday gifts that they will never use, just because their initials are on it. Those initials can be really great, but they shouldn’t be plastered onto everything. Use monograms for good! Put them on gifts that make sense to display them, like casserole carriers, luggage tags, or growlers.

Thanks to all of these Etsy shops for providing great gifts!

Enjoy 🙂
