Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex- Book Review

Bonk: The Curious Coupling of Science and Sex by Mary Roach
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When I first started reading this book I was annoyed at how long it took the author to get her point across. It seemed like I could skip 3 pages every time she started a new topic and I would still know what she was talking about.

As I moved further into the book I became more intrigued. The studies she talks about, and the results found, are oddly amusing. You wouldn’t think that learning about pig sex could teach you a whole lot about your sexual self.

Did you know that vaginal blood flow increases by about 13% when women smell a mixture of cucumbers and Good ‘N Plenty? This is completely irrelevant to life but it is interesting and these little tidbits are the things that kept my attention. I will probably get around to reading her book Cadavers sometime in the next year. Hopefully it is enjoyable.

Note to future readers:
Remember that you are reading about sex and science, not just human sexuality and science…
