Illustrations on Photography by Johan Thörnqvist

Johan Thörnqvist is a Swedish illustrator. He created the work by drawing on photography taken only with a cell phone. On the right is the original photograph and his manipulation on the left.

I love these illustrations because this is what I see when I look at an object or landscape. There is this part of me that spaces out and someone has to pull me back to reality. I love that Johan capture what his mind was visualizing. Very intriguing. And all with a cell phone image. What a brilliant idea.

So, I encourage you to check out his site and possibly his social networks.

Pinterest- interesting stuff on here. However, I can’t read a lot of it. Just go back to your childhood and be amused by the pictures.

Tumblr- English as well.

DIY Sketchbook Cover

sketbook-cover

I recently got a new sketchbook. The first thing I do with a new one is to decorate the cover. Usually this consists of a massive collage of drawings, paintings, and sometimes bits and pieces of articles. This time, I preferred to go colorful and a bit less in your face.

If you are very familiar with Ann Arbor, you are probably familiar with Sluggo. He is the work of David Zinn and appears randomly on the sidewalks. Zinn has been creating original artwork in and around Ann Arbor since 1987.

David’s artwork has been reproduced in Canada, England, Scotland, South Korea, Japan, and Australia, and can also be found on the inside of dumpsters in Ann Arbor and the outside of buses in Anchorage.

Step 2:
Doodle with your sharpie.

Yes, seriously, that’s it. Sharpies make everything a bit more fun. I’m pretty standard with these but you can use different colored sharpies or possibly paint. I didn’t attempt paint but it could work. I recommend spraying them with a sealant so they don’t smudge but it’s not necessary. If you let them dry long enough they should be fine. Enjoy!
